Evaluation
Miss-red evaluation
Our task was to produce the opening of a thriller, including titles. We could aim at any age group we wanted to. We went into groups of four and came up with a rough idea of what to do. We then had to look at and analysis two of Saul bass opening sequence which were psycho and vertigo this was to help us observe the codes and conventions that we would need to use to help us finish the task which was set.
We come up with they idea of a women as the murder as this was different to many other thrillers we had seen, we also decided that she would be fully dressed in red and that she would be a deranged ex-girlfriend looking to seek revenge on who ever went out with her ex-boyfriend. So I decide to analysis two other thrillers which had the same concept as we did. The two films I decide to analysis were basic instinct and fatal attraction both films were about a woman who was the murder. We then had to do some research into what age group we wanted to aim our film out as a group we decide to aim it at 12 up wards so we gave our film the certificate rating of 12a this would open our film up to a wider audience. Before we started filming out opening sequence we look at Tvzetan Todorov. He believed that the fictional environment begins with a state of equilibrium (All as it should be, in a state of equal balance between powers of any kind). This is then disrupted in some way (disequilibrium
My media product uses, develops and challenges the forms and conventions of real media products. I did this by looking at other thriller opening sequences and using some ideas in my opening sequence that I produced, the forms and conventions that I used to develop my opening sequence were that it kept the audience guessing, who was she?, how did she get in the house? These are just some of the questions going through the audiences head while watching the opening sequence. The other forms and conventions that we used were that we made the victim seem clues to what was going on, by doing this we made her look very feeble. We also stuck with music that’s started off slow and started to speed up with the tension of the opening sequence. We also challenged the forms and conventions normally used in a thriller by using a female as the murder and not a male. We made her look very dominant and powerful by putting her all in red this made her stand and to the very dull colored back ground. We also never saw her face through out the opening sequence the made her look mysterious, most shots of her were low angle shots this again made her look more powerful and dominant. As Miss Red makes her way through the house we have quick shots going from the antagonist to the protagonist with music at a quick pace to create suspense.
The codes and conventions are also mainly what the audiences
expect to see within a thriller.i feel that the internet would be a good place to distribute our media product. We have put our film on sites such as YouTube, facebook and blogger. If we could use a big production company distribute our film I would choose a big American company such as Universal Fox. This would mean we could distribute our film to our target audience as they would put our film all over the world not just in the u.k, however they don’t often deal with very small films. Smaller film companies like Film 4 would be more willing to accept on smaller or ‘independent’ films.The target audience who we chose to aim our film at is to those at the ages of 15. We chose this certificate as the characters are teenagers themselves but its also a thriller and we didn’t think a younger audience would be able to understand the plot. We also found out that most children aged 15 - 18 prefer thrillers. While making our media film I have learnt many things I have learnt how to use an Apple Mac computer, video camera, tripod, iMovie and Blogger.com
When we completed our film and started to edit it, we used Imovie, a movie editing application found on Apple Macs. This technology was impressive and we were able to run our film smoothly with tools such as precision cutting and cropping, so any small mistakes that were made could be easily fixed, without the need to film again. We didn’t want any fancy transitions, as we wanted simple cuts throughout our film so the audience focussed on our content. We used a cross blur whilst the character was walking down the hallway, as we felt the clip went on for too long. We also decided to mute all of the clips in our film due to noises that were captured in the background that ruined the continuity
While working on editing the film we found out that me and Abbie were best at editing as we seemed to take to it quicker than Becky and Danielle. We wanted to put a well none song over our film but we then found out that we couldn’t you this as this would be copyright and we would have to pay royalties, so our tutor contacted someone she knew at the BBC who found copyright free music for us to use. We listened to each track and finally found one we all liked which was called ‘Extinction’. This track basically consists of a main piano theme with strings which is commonly used in thriller films, so we believed it would show a good understanding of the research we have done.
When creating titles for our film, we researched other openings to see what names and titles. We decided to only include the actor’s names, the production company and the directors, as we did not want any more distraction from the film itself. We used classic, archaic writing, commonly used in thriller films, to show our knowledge of the thriller genre. The actual title of the film was of a different font. We gained this from dafont.com. To show our knowledge of thrillers, on our titles we decided to use classic writing as this is commonly seen in other thriller films. The font we choose was a hand written font which creates a dark personal touch to the film, this is used at the very end of our sequence when the screen fades to black and the text that’s in white reads ‘some people are often misread’ then ‘Miss Red’ scrolls across in white and red.
During a Year 12 open evening, we broadcasted our final piece of work to the pupils in year eleven. We had some brilliant feed back of the people who viewed our film and they wanted to know what was going to happen next. To show our research and planning we set up our own personal blog on www.blogger.com. I found the site pretty straightforward and easy to understand and by keeping all of our work on here, it helped everything to be more organised and allowed our tutor to monitor our progress of research and film planning. Abbie came up with a idea for a group blog which we called JABD productions.
Im glad we did this as it helped manage our work much easier and everyone had the password and username to be ble to access it at school, home. When we’d publish a post we would leave our names at the bottom to help show whose work it was.
Throughout our film, we made mistakes, often the camera would not be straight, or the shot would not work against the last due to continuity differences, and we were obliged to go back and film again.
Objects that suddenly disappear and then reappear can destroy the realism and affect suspension of disbelief. Our continuity had to be very simpmle.This sequence had to last a maximum of 45 seconds. Whilst filming we had to make sure that we didn’t break the 180 degree rule as this could ruin our film for the audience. The continuity task that our tutor gave us made us gain a larger understanding in the use of filming certain shots and introduced.me close ups

Basic Instinct
iv been looking at the movie tralier for basic Instinct again this is very simliar to our film as there is a women who is love with someone but is a crazed killer. the fim was realised in 1992 and directed byPaul verhoeven.
The film centers around police detective Nick Curran, who is investigating the brutal murder of a wealthy former rock star. Beautiful, seductive and wealthy crime writer Catherine Tramell could be involved; over the course of the investigation, Detective Curran becomes involved in a torrid and intense relationship with the mysterious woman — who turns out to be very dangerous.
Even before its release, the film generated controversy due to its overt sexuality and graphic depiction of violence. It was also strongly opposed by gay rights activists, who criticized the film's depiction of homosexual relationships and the depiction of a bisexual woman as a psychopathic serial killer

We have to filming again tomorrow for the last time hopefully.. we only have to add one more scene so it shouldn't take that long.

Research
Iv been looking at films that are similar to our film, with the women as the main killer/ nutter in the film.
The film that post resembles our film the most i would say is Fatal Attraction this is a 1987 thriller film about a married man who has a weekend affair with a woman who refuses to allow it to end and who becomes obsessed with him.
This is very similar to our film because our film plot it very similar to this but our film Miss-REd is about a crazed ex-girl friend who doesnt want to let her ex go.
